Pokemon Go has millions of people across the world trying to catch 'em all. How big is this cultural phenomenon really? From number of users to daily revenue, here are ten insane numbers to give you an idea about how big the newest global craze has become
10. 13 Hours
That's how long it took for Pokemon Go to reach the top of the app store. Most games and popular mobile applications take weeks or months to garner attention from audiences. Pokemon Go launched on July 7th, and later that same day, it surpassed all other app downloads. What's crazy is that it is getting bigger. It might soon eclipse all social media usage and it has only been around for about ten days.
Of the 100 million Androids users in the United States, 5% have already downloaded Pokemon Go. That puts it ahead of dating app Tinder, which has been around since 2012. I guess people would rather catch Pokemon than catch STDs. But that's Tinder, right? There's no way Pokemon Go could overtake the giants like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter! Well, according to statistics, it is already on pace to surpass Twitter, which has been around since 2006. 3.5% of Android users use Twitter daily, while 3% use Pokemon Go daily. Recent data has not been gathered, but assuming that it is similar for Apple iPhone users, that gives a glimpse of how big this craze is getting.
8. 43 Minutes
The average Pokemon Go player is on the app for 43 minutes a day. Compared to the average Snapchat user who only spends 22 minutes a day on Snapchat, and the average Instagram user who spends 25 minutes a day on the app, this is a huge difference. WhatsApp is second at 30 minutes, showing how far Pokemon go has distanced itself from the pack.
"I wanna be... the very best... like no one ever was!" What better song to inspire becoming a Pokemon master than the legendary theme itself? The Pokemon Theme Song has seen a 362% increase in streams on Spotify since Pokemon Go was released.
While we're on the topic of Spotify, let me just tell you how many Pokemon-themed playlists have popped up. 197,000 Spotify playlists include the word Pokemon in the title, while an additional 53,000 playlists contain the word Pikachu. I guess you need some quality Pokemon-hunting tunes if you truly want to be the very best.
