While the university you attend should be the biggest factor in where you decide to go to school, it's hard to deny the importance of the surrounding city. It's easy to live in a bubble while you're in college, but with how welcoming and college-friendly these towns are, we can't imagine why you'd want to hole yourself up on campus. From nightlife and culture to the great outdoors, these cities make for the best college towns in America.

8. Fayetteville, Arkansas

Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas, where the Razorbacks run rampant. During the school semesters, tens of thousands of students flock to this relatively quiet and small town. With pleasant weather almost year-round, Dickson Street is always bustling with students, residents, alumni, and retirees alike. Live music, theater, restaurants, bars, and shopping areas riddle this street, the primary entertainment and nightlife district in Fayetteville, followed by the college student-oriented College Avenue.

7. Ann Arbor, Michigan

The University of Michigan calls the lively city of Ann Arbor home. Despite the University of Michigan often dominating the conversation when it comes to Ann Arbor, the city and university manage to coexist and integrate into one another seamlessly. The college sports scene in Ann Arbor is hard to beat, but the variety of excitement brought to the city by the arts community adds another reason to love Ann Arbor. From theater to music to visual arts, you can find something unique to do every weekend. The city’s decriminalization of marijuana has also made the town an attractive destination for college students and graduates alike.
