While the university you attend should be the biggest factor in where you decide to go to school, it's hard to deny the importance of the surrounding city. It's easy to live in a bubble while you're in college, but with how welcoming and college-friendly these towns are, we can't imagine why you'd want to hole yourself up on campus. From nightlife and culture to the great outdoors, these cities make for the best college towns in America.

It's easy to live in a bubble while you're in college, but with how welcoming and college-friendly these towns are, we can't imagine why you'd want to hole yourself up on campus. From nightlife and culture to the great outdoors, these cities make for the best college towns in America.
6. Fort Collins, Colorado Colorado State University calls this city home, as do many trails, parks, and unique businesses. In other words, it’s classic Colorado. This college town oftentimes does not feel like a college town at all, with wide open spaces and a friendly community. It was even once ranked the best place to live, along with one of the top ten places to retire. In other words, this place is a great place to be, and not just for college students. For college students though, the nightlife is pretty great. 
The large number of breweries and marijuana dispensaries might also add to the appeal of this city for prospective college students and young adults. 
5. Cambridge, Massachusetts Home to the hallowed grounds of Harvard and MIT, Cambridge is the perfect setting for college students. Just minutes away from the neighboring metropolis of Boston, college students in Cambridge get a wide variety of choices for, well, anything. Restaurants, bars, the arts, sporting events, you name it. The only major downside here is the average cost of living, especially rent. However, you truly do get your money’s worth with everything you have available just outside of your doorstep.
