While the university you attend should be the biggest factor in where you decide to go to school, it's hard to deny the importance of the surrounding city. It's easy to live in a bubble while you're in college, but with how welcoming and college-friendly these towns are, we can't imagine why you'd want to hole yourself up on campus. 4. Ames, Iowa This town in Iowa may not seem like much, but the welcoming environment and small town charm make for a great college setting. Iowa State University has a beautiful campus, and with a large number of students, new businesses are always opening up to cater to the population of college students. You also won’t have to deal with awful traffic and big city rushes here. Just a few minutes away, you’ll be able to find vast expanses of corn fields and farmlands, but on the other hand, you’re also just a short drive from the much bigger city of Des Moines.
3. Chapel Hill, North Carolina The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill makes it home in one of the best college towns in the country. The fantastic weather throughout the year means you can spend as much time as you need outside to appreciate the scenic beauty. With a number of unique establishments ranging from their planetarium to a slew of one-of-a-kind restaurants and bars, Chapel Hill is about as different as a college town gets.
