10. Religious Studies Religion is one of the most intriguing subjects in the world. That much is undeniable. It has helped shape nearly every aspect of our modern world. The world's many religions are rich, diverse, and immensely fascinating. Some form of religion has likely played a part since the beginning of recorded human history. Its impact on the world is not what is in question here. Unfortunately for religious studies students, religion has not only been slowly losing its grip in modern society, but it is also one of the worst college majors someone can choose. The average starting salary for a religious studies major starts at around $38,000. That by itself is not too bad, but the dwindling job market and low demand for religious studies majors make it a job of the past as opposed to one of the future. The relatively low starting pay also suggests that it might not be worth it to shell out thousands of dollars towards a college education if one can find a similarly-paying job without a college degree.
