Elon Musk is no stranger to bold claims, but he is no stranger to revolutionary success either. The latest in a string of monumental endeavors is his aspiration to send humans to our neighboring planet within the next eight years. No human has ever set foot on Mars, and technology is still quite a long way away from even imagining colonizing The Red Planet. When Musk took the stage at Code 2016, he announced these plans, aiming for the first humans to arrive on Mars in 2025.

SpaceX has been a hot topic lately, as they recently just landed a rocket on a moving drone ship. Whether or not that is a good indicator of whether or not SpaceX is going to be able to send us to Mars depends on how you look at it. It is a small step, but with technology constantly improving, who knows what could happen within the next ten years?

Below is a video of Musk at Code 2016 talking about his goals of sending people to Mars.
Talking more short-term, Musk spoke about the success his rockets have had, and how he plans on continuously improving them. He also spoke about the Falcon Heavy, an extremely powerful rocket that will be the strongest since the Saturn V, which took humans to the moon. Earlier this year, Musk also planned on landing a SpaceX dragon on Mars by 2018. That one won't have people on it, but it will be a good indicator of what Musk could accomplish with an additional six years.

Musk does have to be concerned about potentially spreading himself too thin. His successes with Tesla have proven his genius and entrepreneurial vigor to a much more global level. His plans to grow Tesla will not come easily, and with his Hyperloop project gaining popularity and traction, it is hard to just drop out from that one as well. Can Musk revolutionize electric cars, high-speed trains, and space travel all at the same time?
