12. Rice University
Located in Houston, Texas, Rice perfectly combines sophistication with a little bit of Southern charm. The buildings are beautiful, while the landscaping perfectly complements the architecture. Buildings are relatively few and far between, and the campus consists of many quadrangles, giving students wide open spaces to roam and relax in between their studies.

11. The University of Chicago
The castle-like college is quite a deviance from the sleek, silver skyscrapers that also call Chicago home. The gothic style of the older buildings are reminiscent of Oxford. However, the University of Chicago is very progressive when it comes to architecture, with many modern styles being employed in the recent buildings. Instead of clashing, the many styles complement each other to make the University of Chicago one of the most beautiful schools in the country.

10. Duke University
Duke's campus in Durham, North Carolina, spans an immense 8,500 acres. Perhaps the most recognizable sight of those 8,500 acres is the massive Gothic style chapel, pictured above. The campus, including the chapel, was largely designed by renowned African American architect, Julian Abele. There’s definitely very little to complain about Abele’s work.

9. University of California - Santa Barbara
It doesn’t get any better than California climate and a campus right by the ocean. UCSB is one of the only campuses on America with its own beach, and it is situated on cliffs right above the Pacific Ocean. This makes for an incredible party atmosphere, with UCSB also being a top party school in the country. However, it’s not all play over there. UCSB is consistently ranked as one of the best universities in America, and is considered one of the “public ivies”.
