Most people hate living in dorms, and who can blame them? 2. MIT
This is Simmons Hall, more lovingly referred to as "The Sponge." At a cost of almost $80 million, it is one of the most expensive dorms at MIT. Why is it called The Sponge? Well, it is a massive concrete block, with 5,500 square windows. So yeah, we are not exactly sure why it is called the Sponge either. However, those 5,500 2 foot x 2 foot windows are more than just for show or design. They help keep the interior warm during the winter and cool during the summer. Leave it to MIT to design something so fantastically engineered yet environmentally sustainable. |
