March 6th, 2017
Eli Solidum

While the university you attend should be the biggest factor in where you decide to go to school, it's hard to deny the importance of the surrounding city. It's easy to live in a bubble while you're in college, but with how welcoming and college-friendly these towns are, we can't imagine why you'd want to hole yourself up on campus. From nightlife and culture to the great outdoors, these cities make for the best college towns in America.

2. Tempe, Arizona

The weather in Tempe is basically perfect year-round, although maybe a bit too hot in the summer. Thankfully, most students are long-gone by then. While many other towns can boast about perfect weather, Tempe has an abundance of reasons to actually want to be outside. Hikers, cyclists, and explorers can take on the mountains and waterfalls around the area.

Ziplines and water parks are available for adrenaline junkies, and for those who are a bit tamer, festivals and events focusing on the arts, music, and food happen all the time. Downtown Tempe is also home to over 175 restaurants, bars, and retail stores for everything you need.

1. Boulder, Colorado

Anyone who has been to Boulder can agree that this city is one of a kind. The nature surrounding the city, including the iconic Flatirons, is tough to beat. It is heaven for lovers of the outdoors, with hiking and biking trails aplenty. Although a relatively large town itself, Boulder is just half an hour north of Colorado’s capital city of Denver. If you ever somehow get bored at Boulder, you’ll have no problem finding a convenient getaway spot. Boulder consistently ranks highly in everything ranging from health, well-being, quality of life, education, and culture. It has been ranked first in happiest cities, foodiest cities, best cities to raise and outdoors kid, brainiest cities, and best towns to live well. Basically, it’s no surprise that Boulder tops this list. College students, you’ve picked a great place to live. Just watch out for mattress-stealing roommates.
