Every Sh*tty Thing That Happened in 2016
November
The election year in America comes to its conclusion as Donald Trump shocks the entire world with his upset victory against democratic candidate and political powerhouse, Hillary Clinton. The election, one of the most controversial in all of American history, sees a businessman and TV personality take hold of the world’s most powerful post, despite losing by nearly three million votes. On November 25th, Fidel Castro, a Cuban revolutionary and leader dies at the age of 90 after having spent over five decades leading his country. Castro, a hero to some and dictator to many, is among the most controversial political figures in all of history. As November came to a close, a plane carrying Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense FC crashes near Medellin, Colombia. 71 are killed, including the majority of the team, coaches, and the journalists traveling with the team. Leonard Cohen, famous singer and songwriter, also died this month on November 7th.
December A month known for holiday celebrations and cheer turned sour this year, with many tragic events across the world. On December 19th, Berlin's Christmas market was targeted in a truck attack that left 12 dead and 56 injured. The attacker pledged allegiance to ISIS in a video before carrying out the attack. A Russian plane crashed on Christmas day into the Black Sea. It is believed that all 92 passengers on board are dead. The flight was carrying a famous Russian choir, the Alexandrov Ensemble which was set to perform for military overseas. December also saw many beloved and talented individuals taken away from us. John Glenn, the American hero who took us to the stars as the first astronaut to orbit the Earth, died at the age of 95 on December 8th. The basketball world lost flamboyant and talented sportscaster Craig Sager, who battled his disease for years. His in-depth interviews and colorful suits lit up the NBA in a way no other reporter could. Beloved actor Alan Thicke passed away as well, and in brutal irony, “Last Christmas” singer George Michael died on Christmas day. George Michael was half of the Wham! duo and had a successful solo career as well. In what will hopefully be this awful year’s final act, the world lost its General and Princess on December 27th. Carrie Fisher suffered a massive heart attack on a flight, and fought for several days before passing away. The year has definitely thrown a lot at us, and one can only imagine what 2017 possibly has in stores for us. What do you think? Are things only going to look up from here? Or is this simply the beginning of the end? Leave your thoughts in the comments below, and make sure to like and share this post! Update: On December 28th, the day after daughter Carrie Fisher died, Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds passes away at the age of 84.
