1. Engineering
Engineering is an excellent major to choose because it covers such a wide span of fields. The highest paying is Petroleum Engineering ($103,000 average starting salary), but nuclear, chemical, aerospace, electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering all are ranked in the top 10 majors based on salary potential. Each one of those has an average mid-career salary of at least 6 figures. If you are up for a difficult challenge, then pursuing engineering is your best bet.
