If Disney Movies Were Historically Accurate

January 26th, 2014

Picture
The most realistic part of this movie is that a beautiful girl "falls in love" with a rich guy in a castle despite his awful looks. To quote Kanye: "Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger.."
2. Beauty and the Beast
In the Disney Universe everyone is happy and healthy and the village is clean and content.

Belle lives in 1700’s France. You know what the conditions of 1700’s France were? Spoiler alert: they weren’t great. Unemployment was high, and rapid disease was still a thing. The average life lasted 36 years. They still dumped the results of their “bathroom time” into the streets. But Belle can walk around free and be handed bread and books like they’re going out of style.

The one thing Disney did get historically accurate here was that very few people could read, and Belle could read, which made her an outcast.

So congrats, Disney, your most historically accurate movie is the one with the talking candlestick and magical monster.
