9. Amelia Dyer
While only six victims have been confirmed, with only three being identified, estimates place Amelia Dyer to be one of the most prolific murderers in history. Over the course of her killing spree, Dyer may have been responsible for the deaths of over 400 infant children. Initially being in charge of a baby farm, and then subsequently posing as an adoptive mother, Dyer took infants from mothers who could not raise their own children, charging a one-time adoption fee. Initially just letting the infants die of neglect and starvation, Dyer eventually wanted to speed up the process, strangling the babies. She would hop from town to town to gain new business and elude authorities, and repeat the process. Her reign of terror lasted several decades before her capture and execution in 1896. |
