Pokemon Go has millions of people across the world trying to catch 'em all. How big is this cultural phenomenon really? From number of users to daily revenue, here are some insane statistics about the newest craze.
5. $9 Billion Not since the 80's has Nintendo seen a jump in their stock as big as the one following the release of Pokemon Go. It jumped an astounding 23%. The gaming giant has been involved with Pokemon for decades, and the early Pokemon games played on handheld Nintendo devices have been a staple part of millions of kids' childhoods worldwide. As a result of Pokemon Go, Nintendo's market value has increased by about $9 billion. 4. 350,000 There's a way to bypass location settings on certain devices, and apparently people were taking full advantage of this. Before Pokemon Go was officially released to users in the UK, 350,000 people went to extra trouble to get it just a few day early. APK Mirror is the service that allowed this, and there was a 597% increase in traffic to APK Mirror in the days preceding Pokemon Go's release in the UK.
3. 21 Million After just 10 days, there could be 21 million active players of Pokemon Go. 5% of Android users have downloaded the game just days after its release, and this could balloon as it continues to gain popularity. This is in the United States alone, where there are about 100 million Android users. Another estimated 5 million iOS users play the game, but recent data has not been readily available. As more data comes in, these numbers could increase exponentially, and some already estimate that 21 million people globally are partaking in the cultural phenomenon. 2. 75% While the popularity of some games come and go as quickly as you transfer Pidgeys to Professor Willow, Pokemon Go has an unheard of retention rate. The average game loses 70% of its players after the first day it is downloaded. Pokemon Go? Just 25%, making for an astonishing 75% retention rate. By day three, the retention rate for most mobile games is close to 0%. Pokemon Go is sitting steady at just under 70%.
1. $5 Million This is a possible number for daily revenue for Pokemon Go. On average, Pokemon Go earns a quarter per daily active user. Compare that to the average game that earns about 10 cents per daily active user. While exact revenue is unknown and has not been released, this can be estimated to be up to $5 million a day if the bold estimate of 21 million active users is correct. |
