Top 10 Moments in NCAA Tournament History
With March Madness right around the corner, we take a look back at some of the most memorable moments in the history of the NCAA Tournament.
1. NC State vs. Houston
In a game that has become immortalized in college basketball, top-seeded Houston, led by Hakeem Olajuwon, took on a scrappy 6-seed in NC State, who had survived countless late-game deficits throughout the tournament. Trailing late in the game, the Wolfpack began fouling Houston, who couldn’t seem to find the net. With the scored knotted at 52 apiece, NC State’s Dereck Whittenburg grabbed a sloppy pass and threw up a prayer shot. While everyone else watched the ball, Whittenburg’s teammate Lorenzo Charles slipped down the lane and intercepted the airball, dunking it in to win the Championship. The image of Wolfpack head coach Jim Valvano running onto the court in disbelief epitomizes this moment. Comment Box is loading comments...
