Last warning. I’m not kidding, this will ruin the movie. This isn’t a game.

Still here? OK, cool. Let’s get this started.

So for months leading up to the release of the film, Luke Skywalker was rumored to have been on the Dark Side, or even was Kylo Ren himself (quick sidenote: Kylo Ren is a badass). But after seeing the film (and barely seeing Luke), it appears those fears can be put to rest. Or are they? Here are four possible theories for Luke Skywalker for Episode VIII.

1. There is no theory, Luke Is just an old Jedi
Perhaps the one theory that we are least willing to admit is the one that there is no theory. As much as we want to believe that Luke has some trick up his sleeve, or has a master plan of how to fix things, it is highly probable that Luke did exile himself simply because he could not look Han and Leia in the face after he failed them and allowed their son to fall victim to the Dark Side and slaughter the other Jedi. He has been hiding for his own safety. And when Rey comes, sure, he’ll train her and hug Leia but it likely means he will be the next in line to get Abrams’ axe.
