Two adult men have been confirmed dead as a result of apparent murder-suicide on June 1, 2016, on UCLA’s campus.
According to the UCLA Newsroom, the first of a series of 911 calls was made at approximately ten a.m. The Los Angeles Times states that the first call reported three gun shots on campus. Shortly thereafter, hundreds of law enforcement officials arrived, including the LAPD, UCLA police, FBI agents, and more. Students in classrooms formed barricades during the lockdown, while police and other emergency staff evacuated those on campus. "The teacher made us flip all the tables and put them up against the door," said a student describing the lockdown. Another student, freshman Teddi Maddox who was in the cafeteria at the time stated that "we're crowded back here, we've been here for at least an hour and a half. People are crying, they're nervous, they're shaking ... I have not stopped shaking for the last hour and a half." By 11:15 a.m., police were able to confirm two deaths in the Engineering IV building, according to the UCLA Newsroom. The Los Angeles Police Department’s News Release states that “no further suspects have been seen.” For a while, the entire city of Los Angeles was placed on tactical alert, and surrounding schools in the area were also placed on lockdown. The Los Angeles Police Chief confirmed that two victims were dead in an apparent murder-suicide. Classes are scheduled to resume on the morning of Thursday, June 2. The engineering school, where the shooting occurred, will resume classes on Monday. Above is a video from MSNBC regarding the shooting. Video was previously a live stream of the situation but was taken down after the situation had pacified.
